Ormond Ferraris

Ormond Ferraris has dedicated more than 60 years of his life to horse racing. He began as a young track rider under the well-known trainer George Weale and went on to build an incredible career, training around 2,600 winners from 1954 to 2019.

Some of his most remarkable achievements include:

• 10 Oaks titles, with standout winners such as St Just, Fast Break, Lambarina, Sabina Park, and Cherry On The Top
• 8 Derby wins, including top horses like Fine Regent, Distinctly, The Monk, and Travel North
• A Triple Tiara victory with Cherry On The Top
• Two National Trainer Championships (1991/92 and 1993/94)
• 1994 Summer Cup winner Sizzling Sun
• The memorable 1975 Durban July with Distinctly

Ormond’s legacy extends far beyond the racetrack. A passionate advocate for the industry and a committed supporter of the Trainers Benevolent Fund, he has earned the respect of both his peers and the racing community. At 93, he remains an active force in training, continuing to shape champions with the same dedication and expertise that have defined his legendary career.
