Kicking off 2026 with purpose: Legacy Project handover empowers young talent

Ready for 2026! Legacy Project bursary recipients with Medihelp and the South African Hall of Fame team at the handover.

On 30 January 2026, Medihelp Medical Scheme put a spring in the step of South Africa’s future young stars at Pretoria Boys High School. The source of their excitement was thoughtfully packed kits that equipped these young, talented Legacy Project bursary recipients for the opportunities and challenges the new year may bring.

Equipped for the year ahead

Each boy received a duffle bags filled with a Medihelp cap, sports towel, swim towel, water bottle, wet and dry bag, and a brand-new pair of sport-specific shoes.

A Partnership built on purpose

“Medihelp is deeply inspired by the values the South African Hall of Fame lives by,” said Lien Potgieter, head of Marketing at Medihelp. “We choose our partners carefully and with intention, and this partnership reflects our belief that health includes community, purpose, and showing up for one another.”

More than just a gift

While the handover included essentials, it carried a deeper message of belief and hope.

“We believe in investing in our youth,” Lien shared. “This is our way of supporting their journey, making sure they’re equipped and ready for the year ahead, so they can continue putting their talents into action. It’s also a moment to reflect on their achievements from last year and encourage them to keep chasing their dreams.”

The boys walked away not just with new kit, but with the knowledge that there are people cheering them on.

“We wanted them to know they’re not alone. There are people and organisations rooting for them every step of the way.”

Wellness, in every sense

For Medihelp, supporting the Legacy Project reflects their belief that health is also about community, purpose, and showing up for one another.

Their mission is to be more than a medical aid provider. Medihelp aims to be a trusted companion on every health journey, offering support, confidence, and the encouragement to take ownership of one’s well-being.

Guided by care, trust, and fresh thinking, Medihelp is committed to building a future where healthcare is accessible, inclusive, and truly works for people.

As the South African Hall of Fame continues to honour greatness and inspire future generations, we’re grateful for partners like Medihelp who turn those ideals into action, one child, one gesture, and one rising star at a time.
