With a career spanning over three decades, five continents, and more than 3,800 career victories, Mike de Kock is one of the most successful and respected horse racing trainers in the world. Known for his bold strategies, international vision, and unmatched results, he has elevated South African horse racing onto the global stage.
Born on 14 February 1964 in Alberton, Gauteng, Mike’s journey began in humble surroundings, learning to ride in the army’s equestrian unit and studying every racing publication he could get his hands on. In 1987, he saddled his first winner, Evening Mist, who would also become his first Grade 1 victor. That moment sparked a legendary career that would shape the future of the sport.

- 141 Grade/Group 1 victories
- 8-time South African National Champion Trainer
- Second-most successful trainer in Dubai Racing Carnival history
His training of champions such as Horse Chestnut, Ipi Tombe, Victory Moon, Vercingetorix, Iridescence, Rafeef, Hawwaam, and Soqrat has earned him global respect. With son Mathew de Kock now joining him in a powerful training partnership, the de Kock legacy is poised to continue for a new generation.
His induction into the South African Hall of Fame celebrates not only a career of historic achievements but a lifetime of inspiring others to dream boldly and strive for greatness.
