Janine van Wyk is South Africa’s most-capped footballer, a fierce defender, and a pioneering force in the growth of women’s football both locally and internationally.

Born on 17 April 1987 in Alberton, van Wyk captained Banyana Banyana and led the team to its first-ever FIFA Women’s World Cup appearance in 2019. She is also the founder of JVW FC, one of the country’s most successful women’s football clubs, dedicated to developing young talent.

Her career has broken barriers, inspired girls across the nation, and elevated the women’s game to new heights. Janine’s leadership on and off the pitch continues to shape the future of football in South Africa.
