Inducted into the South African Hall of Fame – 14 November 2025

Aaron Mokoena, affectionately known as “Mbazo,” is a former national team captain and one of South Africa’s most respected football leaders.

Born on 25 November 1980 in Boipatong, Mokoena made history as the youngest player to ever wear the Bafana Bafana jersey  making his debut at just 18 years old in 1999 and went on to earn over 100 caps. He later also became one of the youngest captains of the national team.He played in top European leagues, including for Blackburn Rovers and Portsmouth in the English Premier League, and captained South Africa at the 2010 FIFA World Cup on home soil.
