From 5–15 July 2025, four remarkable men—Chris Oldnall, Luke Allan, Wade Grundy, and Keegan McIntosh—will take on the mighty Mount Kilimanjaro. But this is more than just a climb. It’s a mission to change lives through the Boys Higher initiative.
Rooted in the enduring spirit of Pretoria Boys High School, this expedition celebrates a proud tradition of mentorship—an intergenerational bond between boys becoming men, and men committed to uplifting others. Each climber is part of a mentor/mentee pair, carrying with them not only the weight of the climb, but the dreams and futures of talented children with limited resources.
Why They Climb
At the heart of Boys Higher lies The Legacy Project, an initiative of the South African Hall of Fame that empowers children with exceptional potential but limited resources. Through bursaries, life skills, and mentorship, this program opens doors where there were once only walls.
The team climbs to raise funds for The Legacy Project, turning each step up Kilimanjaro into a step forward for a child in need. Their rallying cry says it best:
“Talent is everywhere. Opportunity is not.”
“I’m very grateful to be doing this trip with the guys,” says Chris Oldnall. “And hopefully raising a large amount of funds that will go a long way to make a difference at Pretoria Boys High School.”
For team captain Wade Grundy, a current pupil at Pretoria Boys High, this mission is deeply personal.
“Leading by example, Mr Oldnall planted the seed to give back to our school and inspired me to do the same—and that’s how this Kilimanjaro project was born.”
